Inspired by Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and inspiring, in turn, Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek". This was the first movie with an entirely electronic score. The invisible "Id Monster" scared us silly in 1956. When the monster hit the protective force field around the spaceship, it sounded like a theremin (the instrument used by Brian Wilson's in "Good Vibrations") . The cast included Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Neilsen, and Robbie the Robot.
